The Estonian Refugee Council continues to distribute food aid in Gaza hospitals with the support of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ensuring daily meals for both patients and hospital staff working under extremely difficult conditions. The Ministry’s funding will enable the distribution of over 9,000 meals in Gaza.
“Although the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas initially brought a moment of hope, the situation in Gaza remains extremely critical. The movement of aid into Gaza continues to be restricted, and shortages of fuel, food, and medical supplies place hospitals, which are already operating with minimal capacity, under immense strain. The people of Gaza, who have lived amidst continuous attacks and insecurity for more than two years, are in urgent need of immediate and unrestricted humanitarian assistance,” said Director of the Estonian Refugee Council, Eero Janson.
The Estonian Refugee Council began distributing food aid in Gaza hospitals in September, funded by public donations. Thanks to Estonian donors, the Council has so far distributed 2900 meals in Gaza. Food assistance is being provided in cooperation with the organisation Gaza Soup Kitchen.
The people of Gaza have been living under extremely severe humanitarian conditions for more than two years. Despite the ceasefire that came into effect on 10 October, Israeli ceasefire violations are being recorded against Gaza’s civilian population, and essential aid deliveries are constantly being interrupted and reaching Gaza only in limited quantities.
It is estimated that 81% of buildings in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed. A large proportion of people remain displaced, living in overcrowded shelters or among ruins, without adequate living conditions, water, or electricity. Due to the shortages of food, water, fuel, and medical supplies, the entire population of Gaza – more than two million people, depends on humanitarian aid.
The Estonian Refugee Council continues to collect donations to support the people of Gaza.
