On Friday, March 8th Estonian Refugee Council hosted an Inspiration Day at Kohtla-Järve, bringing together Ukrainian women with refugee backgrounds actively involved in entrepreneurship in Estonia, alongside representatives from the local community.

The event featured empowering speeches by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Estonia Maksym Kononenko, the Deputy-Ambassador of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Estonia Linda Piersma, Ukrainian women who have participated in the Empowering Women and BOOST entrepreneurship programmes, and representatives of the EENA Narva Club and the Ida-Viru Entrepreneurship Centre. The speeches collectively underlined the importance of pursuing one's dreams, despite the various obstacles.

"The day provided an opportunity for different communities to meet and inspire each other. As the majority of the participants were women, it served an opportunity to celebrate International Women's Day with a meaningful programme," explained Grete Karelsohn, the Officer of our Livelihoods Programme.

The event featured a guided tour of Kohtla-Järve, a mental health exercise and a musical performance by Hanna Hnypa.

The Inspiration Day was held at cafe Croissant which is owned by a participant of our 2022 Empowering Women programme, who runs the cafe with her husband.

The event was generously supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Estonia.
